

Les Washbon Memorial Scholarship
Purpose:
The Les Washbon Memorial Scholarship (LWMS) is presented annually to one active
Junior Firefighter who is pursuing an advanced education degree and who exhibits the
qualities and traits of former Terry’s Corners Volunteer Fireman, Lester Washbon. This
scholarship will serve as a constant reminder and remembrance of one of Terry’s
Corners’ fallen volunteers.
Qualifications:
The candidate must be an active Junior Firefighter in one of the following Western New
York companies to qualify:
Barker
Gasport
Hartland
Middleport
Miller Hose
Olcott
Rapids
South Lockport
Terry’s Corners
Wolcottsville
Wrights Corners
Candidate must be between the ages of 16-21 to qualify and must plan to pursue or be
currently enrolled in a higher education program.

Award:
Each year, one winner will be selected by the committee and the winner and one guest
will be invited to attend the Terry’s Corners Volunteer Fire Company installation dinner
in late October. An annual award of $500 will be presented at that time and the
winner’s name will be engraved on the Les Washbon Memorial Scholarship plaque
which will be prominently and permanently displayed at the Terry’s Corners Volunteer
Fire Company recreation hall.
